We were on the road by 630a to take advantage of riding in the cool of the day. Within two hours we’d reached the National Park. Inside the park we traversed 24 miles across the park landscape and experience vistas and views of ancient river beds and petrified rock fields. The colors of the rock formations were red, pink, green, yellow, purple and blue. 320 million years ago, the park was located near the equator and had a lush climate like Costa Rica. As the world evolved, and tectonic events occur, the land pushed further north and the rivers and wet environment dried out. What we traveled through was essentially a large ancient river bed. Layers of sediment of different colors, identified the geological age time frames. It was stunning and hot…and windy. In comparison to 320 million old rock formations, my own life span felt very very short.
Had the same strong headwinds, as yesterday, but today I was coached by friends back home on some meditation techniques to use while riding to make peace with the wind and certainly to stop fighting with it. It worked. I am so grateful. I felt balanced and definitely less stressed, Robin even commented. It was a good day, but hot. My Garmin showed at temp fo 110 deg F.
